Technical Assistance, Training and Coaching for Nonprofits
Nonprofit organizations serving Los Angeles County often benefit from training, technical assistance and coaching from organizations known in the field as “management support organizations” or “capacity builders”. We encourage donors who would like to help particular nonprofits strengthen their sustainability and capacity to consider providing nonprofits with funding to take advantage of the training, technical assistance and coaching available through these management support organizations.
(Offers a broad array of services on nonprofit management and administration, board governance and development, communications, financial management, fundraising, marketing, program evaluation, etc.)
Center for Nonprofit Management of Southern California provides management training workshops and peer meetings for nonprofit professionals and board members.
CompassPoint provides nonprofits with management tools, strategies and resources to lead change in their communities. (Based in Bay Area, but provides Fundraising Academy for Communities of Color and NextGeneration Leadership programs in Los Angeles.)
Executive Service Corps provides capacity-building services in management, board development, fundraising and leadership through a trained volunteer corps of business and nonprofit executives.
Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership provides management training workshops, peer convenings and a Leadership Academy to Long Beach/Gateway Corridor – Southeast L.A./South Bay area nonprofits.
Taproot Foundation provides project-specific pro-bono consulting services on such needs as marketing and branding, information technology, leadership development, strategic human resources planning and strategy management.
Valley Nonprofit Resources provides training, technical assistance, specialized consulting and peer learning opportunities to nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando Valley, including strategic planning.
African American Board Leadership Institute strengthens nonprofit, public and private organizations through recruiting, preparing, and placing African Americans on a broad range of governing boards.
Annenberg Alchemy strengthens the capabilities of executive directors and board chairpersons to transform their organizations’ boards into effective fundraisers.
Riordan Leadership Institute , a program of the Southern California Leadership Network, trains young professionals as board members and helps match them to nonprofits seeking new board members.
Fundraising/Revenue Generation/Financial Management
Academies for Social Entrepreneurship provides training and mentoring programs for sustainable, mission-based businesses.
Grantsmanship Center offers Project Grantsmanship, a five-day intensive workshop that helps nonprofit participants plan more effective programs and produce compelling proposals for funding.
Los Angeles Social Venture Partners offers Social Innovation Fast Pitch, a free two-month communication skills training program for nonprofits that are creating lasting social change in Greater Los Angeles. The program trains nonprofit leaders to powerfully communicate their story, and connects them with leaders in the business, philanthropic, and nonprofit communities who can help them achieve their goals.
Nonprofit Finance Fund provides financial technical assistance and lending services that help nonprofits understand and communicate their financial situations, create cash reserves, build endowments and understand the connections between program priorities, organizational capacity and capital needs.
Special Services for Groups Research and Evaluation unit works with selected CCF grantees to become a learning organization through participation in a one-year peer learning and coaching process focused on outcomes-based planning and evaluation.
L.A. Works increases volunteer participation in community service projects by providing nonprofits with access to volunteer labor and educating people to engage in the broader social issues affecting the greater Los Angeles community.

Advocacy for the Nonprofit Sector
California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits) speaks with the voice of California nonprofits to the legislature, government agencies, philanthropy, and the public through advocacy, convenings, trainings and research.
California Budget Project (CBP) provides nonprofit organizations and community stakeholders in Los Angeles County with state budget briefing papers and analyses to help nonprofits improve their understanding of the state budget process and be better equipped to mobilize their constituencies to advocate for budget proposals that improve the lives of low- and middle-income Californians.
